Advent is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year, Advent coming from the Latin word “ad-venire” translates to the words “to come to”. It is the liturgical season encompassing the four weeks leading up to the celebration of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As a Christian tradition Advent wreaths hold four candles, three purple and one pink. The candles represent Jesus’ coming as the light in darkness. One candle is lit each Sunday until all four candles are lit. As Christmas draws nearer, each candle brings a little more light into the darkness. Each of the candles represents an aspect of preparation during the season of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
This year's YCP Advent retreat offers an opportunity to take time out from the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations and create some silence and stillness to reflect prayerfully, and meditate on some 'good news' moments in the Christmas story.
